MHS NJROTC CADETS ATTEND LEADERSHIP ACADEMY AND NEW YORK STATE BOYS' STATE

This week MHS NJROTC cadets are attending the Navy's NJROTC Leadership Academy and Sail Training (LA/ST) program in Newport, Rhode Island and the American Legion's New York State Boys' State program at SUNY Morrisville.

The Leadership Academy is an intense two-week program that focuses on building leadership through enhancing self-confidence and discipline.  At the same time, cadets also participate in sail training on Narragansett Bay and learn the fundamentals of small boat seamanship.  The two-week program is intense and demanding.  Cadets are under military discipline at all times and the training days run from abut 5 a.m. until about 10 p.m.  It's not all work, however.  During the middle weekend cadets are granted liberty around Newport, one of America's finest tourist destinations.  Attending the Leadership Academy are Cadets Nicholas Weier, Lilian Samuel and Zachary Fuller.

The cadets attending Boys' State participate in a well-respected program focusing on developing an understanding of state government and building an appreciation of one's rights and responsibilities in a free society.  Attending Boys' State are seniors Tyler Jetjomlong, Christian Valentin, and Dillon Ortiz.

READ AND HEED: NEW SIGN-UP PROCEDURES

Begining with the new school year (acually all events on or after after 1 September 2015), we will be using a new procedure for signing up.  All sign-ups will be electronic.  Events will be posted on our Google classroom--the unit classrooom, not the NS 1, 2, 3, or 4 classroom.  All you have to do is click on the event you're interested in, complete the details, and submit.  If you're not on the list, you won't get credit for the event.

CONGRATULATION MHS NJROTC CLASS OF 2015!

Congratulations and good luck to all of Middletown High School's Class of 2015.  I especially want to congratulate the graduates of our NJROTC program.  For four long years you (most of you) have persisted in a program that I am sure, at times, you found annoying, distracting, and of questionable value.  I trust you also found some value in being a member of the unit and that you formed some friendships that will grow as you move into the future.  While most of you will never again need to know what is the preferred extinguishing method for a class "C" fire, or what is the correct method for determining the CPA of a contact, I hope that you might one day look back at your time as a cadet and find that you really did get something extra out of your participation.

Please know that Master Sergeant and I are proud of each of you and take particular pride in our designation as a NETC "Distinguished Unit" The award that was the well-deserved result of your hard work over the last several years.  Good luck to you in whatever the future brings!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW CADET CHAIN OF COMMAND

Go to either the Google Unit Classroom or our the billet selection page of our unit website to find out what job you have next year and what your rank is--look for "A-rank."

Congratulations to our newly installed chain of command.  While the new commanding officer, executive officer, and operations officer were announced at the formal change of command ceremony on Tuesday, 9 June, the other staff and line leaders were not announced until Friday, 12 June.  Wish them good luck--they will need it!  Incidentally, if you are in the new chain of command, start learning names, faces, and jobs.

The new commanding officer posts his chain of command.
