NJROTC Uniform Care Guidelines


Belt buckles. Belt buckles should be free of scratches and tarnish. Shine with Brasso or similar metal polish if quartermaster lacquer has been removed. (Note: Do not remove the quartermaster lacquer film unless directed to do so.)

Belts.  Belt should be free of frays and cut to length so that the brass tip fits properly against the belt buckle.

Blue Shirt.  Wash with colored items. Use only light color safe bleach since too much bleach will yellow the shirt. Best to remove from the dryer before fully dry and allow to drip dry. Need not be ironed.

Khaki Shirt/Overblouse (New Service Uniform).   Wash with light items. Use only light color safe bleach since too much bleach will yellow the shirt. Best to remove from the dryer before fully dry and allow to drip dry. Need not be ironed.

Blue Trousers. Wash with colored items. Use only light color safe bleach. Best to remove from the dryer before fully dry and allow to drip dry. Need not be ironed.

Insignia.  Insignia should not be bent or scratched. Do not shine.

Relaxed Fit Jacket.  Dry clean only. May be steamed, spot cleaned, and brushed to remove wrinkles and light dirt.

Ribbons.  Ribbons should be clean and free of tears, frays, or bends. You may be able to clean some light surface dirt by very carefully wiping the ribbons with a damp (not wet) cloth, but dirty or worn ribbons should be replaced.

Service Dress Blue Jacket.  Dry clean only. May be steamed, spot cleaned, and brushed to remove wrinkles and light dirt.

Shoes. Stuff with newspaper when not use. If wet, wipe with cloth and allow to air dry. Do not dry next to radiator or other heat source. Wipe off excess dirt and dust with damp cloth. Apply polish sparingly use a damp white handkerchief and clean water to spit shine. Ensure the edge of the sole is clean and blackened.

White shirt. Wash with whites. Collar should be pre-treated. Use only light color safe bleach since too much bleach will yellow the shirt. Best to remove from the dryer before fully dry and allow to drip dry to reduce wrinkles and prevent shrinkage. Need not be ironed.

White T Shirt.  Wash with whites. Use only light color safe bleach since too much bleach will yellow the shirt. Best to remove from the dryer before fully dry and allow to drip dry to reduce wrinkles and prevent shrinkage. Need not be ironed.  Note:  We do not issue T-shirts, socks, or other personal items.
