Graduation and Summer Plans

It's been a long-time coming, but it's time to say good-bye to our cadets of the Middletown High School Class of 2010. Fair Winds and Following Seas to them all as they set forth on life after high school.

That leaves the rest of us still here and looking ahead. This summer our cadets will participate in the following:
  • Middletown's "Night Out Against Crime," which will be held on 3 August. We will provide a color guard for the opening and cadets will man an information table.
  • Three cadets will participate in the Navy's NJROTC Leadership Academy, two week's of intense leadership activities and hands-on sail training. Of the over 5,000 cadets in the area only 144 are invited to participate.
  • One cadet will travel all-expenses paid to the University of San Diego to participate in the Navy's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) seminar. This seminar is conducted by the faculty of the university and is a week long full-immersion look at emerging technology.
  • Later in the summer we will conduct Cadet Leadership and Management Training for the cadets who will serve as leaders of our unit next school year.
  • We are planning on a two-day orientation in late August for new cadets entering the freshman class in September. The orientation will include an introduction to basic drill and ceremonies, the cadet uniform, a discussion of our core values and the standards we expect of cadets in terms of performance and behavior. Senior cadets will present a set of tips for success in high school.

And once we're all done with this, the new school starts--more on that in future postings. More to follow...have a Great Summer!
