Congratulations to Cadets Justin Lucchese, Adam Ballard, and Tiffany Parker who graduated from the Navy's prestigious NJROTC Leadership Academy conducted at the Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. During the two-week academy, cadets participated and competed in academics, close order drill, physical fitness training, and hands-on small boat training. Cadets were busy from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. Beyond the everyday training, cadets met and befriended other cadets from across the Northeast and had the opportunity to explore the attractions of the city of Newport.
The Leadership Academy is conducted every summer for select cadets from over 60 schools throughout the Northeast. Participation is limited to a maximum of 144 cadets and being selected to attend is in itself a mark of success. Upon completion, graduates are awarded the silver shoulder cord marking them as true standout among the over 65,000 NJROTC cadets nationwide. Our graduates will be our unit's key leaders for our upcoming school year. Cadet Justin Lucchese has already assumed command of the Middletown High School NJROTC unit and holds the rank of cadet lieutenant commander. Cadet Adam Ballard, who holds the rank of cadet lieutenant, will serve as the unit's executive officer and second in command. Cadet Tiffany Parker, a junior, is the unit's operations officer--a responsibility normally held by a member of the senior class. Cadet Parker holds the rank of cadet lieutenant junior grade. Well Done!
