On Friday, 15 July Middletown High School NJROTC cadets Jose Ramos, Sara Rivera, and Logan Gonzalez graduated from the Navy's Area Four NJROTC Leadership and Sail Training Academy, or LA/ST. Each year the academy accepts 144 cadets from NJROTC host schools throughout the northeast who then participate in two rigorous weeks of training including honors and ceremonies, military drill, personnel inspections, room inspections, physical training, and sail training, which is conducted on Narragansett Bay. Graduates, who represent the "best of the best," are then expected to return to their schools and assume positions of leadership.
Cadet Commander Jose Ramos, MHS class of 2017, will serve as our battalion commander. Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Sara Rivera, MHS class of 2018, will serve as battalion supply officer, and cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Logan Gonzalez, MHS class of 2018, will serve as battalion operations officer. Each of these cadets is now authorized and privildeged to wear the silver cord on their right shoulder.
