CONGRATULATIONS TO LA/ST GRADUATES

At a pass in review ceremony held at Nimitz Field on board the Naval Station Newport, Newport, Rhode Island on Friday, 13 July, 142 cadets, including our own Cadet Samantha "Road Hazard" Migliori and Cadet Robert "Torpedo" Ferguson, graduated from the the Navy's NJROTC Leadership Academy.  The graduates, drawn from schools throughout Area FOUR, completed an arduous two-week school that included daily physical training, personnel inspections, room inspections, academic classes focusing on the qualities of leadership enumerated by Captain John Paul Jones, and sail training on the Narragansett Bay.

Graduates of the Leadership Academy are awarded the silver cord--the only cord authorized to be worn on the wearer's right shoulder.  Of the over 5,000 cadets in Area FOUR, only 144 are selected to attend the academy and graduates typically form the core of the senior leader at their schools.  Aside from being a demanding two weeks, the academy offers cadets a chance to meet their counterparts and form close friendships with cadets they might never otherwise get to meet.
