The Glorious Fourth is almost upon us...Here's a quick summary of what is going on and what is yet to come:
- Cadets Jessica Glickman and Lanae Rutland participated in the New York State Girls' State, a week-long civics program conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary. Selection to participate in either Girls' State or Boys' State is an honor and is often highlighted in college and scholarship applications. Most recall their participation in very positive terms--I would tell you more about this year's program, but, unfortunately, neither Cadet Glickman nor Cadet Rutland has provided any feedback. Where are they? What did they do? The World wonders.
- Cadets Samantha Migliori and Robert Ferguson are currently attending the two-week long NJROTC Leadership Academy held annually at the Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. More to follow.
- Later this month Cadet Glickman will attend the Navy's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) seminar at the University of San Diego, which is located (to no one's great surprise) in San Diego, California.
- Summer work is ongoing here in the ROTC office. Cadets led by our logistics officer Cadet "Nip Cheese" King are inventorying and reconciling our clothing and getting ready to issue uniforms to the incoming NS1's. Lots more is going on. Want to help? We're here almost everyday from 0800 until 1400, but call first. (The office number is 845.326.1578.)
- We're signed up to participate in the annual Night Out Against Crime on 7 August from 5 p.m. (1700 for us military folk) to 2100 (you figure it out). We're looking for a number of qualified, motivated cadets to help.
- We have a summer picnic scheduled on 25 August at Maple Hill Park. Plan on it.
- There are, as of today, 65 days until the first day of school.
Whatever you are doing, make the best use of your time and be ready to hit the deck running in September.
